ARMS is a canceled graphic novel series written by Ian Flynn and illustrated by Joe Ng based on the Nintendo Switch game of the same name. The series was to be published by Dark Horse Comics and Nintendo.

The first full volume was revealed at New York City Comic Con 2017 with an initial release date of Fall 2018,[1] before being delayed and given a new release date of January 2019.[2] It was delayed for a second time, however, without any given release date. Production on the first volume was confirmed to still be ongoing as late as February 2020,[3][4] but on 11 March 2021 fans noticed the author had updated their page to state it was cancelled.[5]

Official synopsis

In a story based on Nintendo's exclusive fighting game ARMS, a young fighter trains tirelessly to reach the top in the ARMS League Grand Prix, but first, he must defeat 599 other contenders![6]

  • Dark Horse Comics distributed a free preview of the first volume at select comic book stores during Free Comic Book Day 2018.
  • In an interview with Nintendo PowerZone,[7] writer Ian Flynn reveals behind-the-scenes information about working with the ARMS IP:
    • His favorite character is Max Brass.
    • Nintendo was fairly loose with restrictions and gave Ian a lot of creative control over the project, accepting his initial proposal without criticism for the character of second-generation Spring Man.
    • The comic would largely focus on Spring Man, but every character would be shown.
    • Ian expresses a strong desire to continue working on the ARMS IP.
    • The comic would reveal new information about Twintelle's backstory that Ian could not elaborate on.
