RE:Costume Colors

Japanese site, European site, American site. You go to the character sections, and each character has their own Personal Data listed in a box of a differing color. Ninjara's box is navy and Min Min's is green. Japan's has been up for at least one and a half month from now. When this site was up, this was the first complete main color reference for the ARMS fighters (at least, concerning the Japanese version).

The site also gives each character a background with their colors. In Ninjara's case, navy is the primary color while the tealish green from his hair and logo is the secondary one. Likewise, Min Min's background features green as its primary color and orange as the secondary one. I'm not exactly sure how much merit that has, considering Master Mummy's background has white as the primary color, yet his personal data box is purple. But these backgrounds do appear in the main game too, therefor meaning that the shirts of the fans are not the only in-game reference of their main colors.

Another in-game reference are the colors of the ending splash screens, and that also has differing colors. Ninjara's is blue, like his navy shirt, Min Min's is orange, but Spring Man's is pinkish red, when most other times, his color was light blue. Kid Cobra's ending image is in cyan, which differs from his purple seen among his data box, background and fans.

And then there's the color of the package ribbons in the ARM Getter, which also differs per character. Which I don't know much of the details, unfortunately.

So when we take other references in account (five in total), it becomes really confusing which one is the primary color and which one is the secondary color. I would do both of the colors (when it applies), but that would mean I would change it for the other characters too, for the sake of consistency, which then gets really confusing when you have characters like Spring Man, whose hair and ARMS are cyan/light blue and his mask and padding is pinkish red, but his next alt has his hair brown, his ARMS and mask green and his padding dark blue. So, really, the easiest and most consistent option is to go with the color of the personal data box on the websites, or maybe the backgrounds.

I'd do the same for Twintelle, too, but her background, website color and ending image are all in golden brown, possibly from her Actress Aura. Like Master Mummy's white bandages, that doesn't even change color per alt (if it were visible from her character select to begin with).

Very well researched, and thank you for the references. However all these examples are about determining the character's main promotional color. And yes that could be their splash screen, their ending screen, their personal data box, or some combination of the above. All that proves is that when it come to the character's main promotional color it is very ambiguous.

I'm talking about when it comes to what color is associated with each palette swap when you choose a different palette swap by holding a direction. The only thing that changes by alt is the color of the fans. Meaning that if Ninjara's promo-color is light blue like his ending screen, or navy with green accents in his splash screen, or navy as his personal data box, doesnt really matter. It's that when your selecting a character on the select screen, the default palette, when compared to the other palette options, is green. And that's true across all characters across all alts.

i.e. Ninjara's promotional color is 'Navy' sure, but his default palette is still his 'green' palette among all his palette options. Like in Smash Bros Wii U, characters all have a promocolor that goes with their box on the character select screen, on their amiibo packaging, their background on the official website etc. But that doesn't mean that because DK always has a yellow background, his default brown fur is his 'yellow' costume.

Use four tildes (~) to write a signature. As for costumes, I believe we should refer to ARM color (if it changes), otherwise skin color, otherwise outfit color, as these tend to be the most distinctive traits of a character. Nyargleblargle (talk) 19:00, 1 July 2017 (EDT)

The goal is to be congruent with the categories that the game assigns to each swap, which is only consistent for the Fan's Shirts. Some ARMS change, some don't. Some shirts/breatplates/pants change, some don't. Some hair colors change, some don't. Some's hair matches the pants, some breastplates match the mask, some ARMS match either or, and some of that varies even in the same character (Spring Man as brought up above). Some clothes match the Personal Box color, some box colors match the splash screen, some splash screen's match special effects like Twintelles golden auras, some effects match the ending screen etc. The only thing that's always "oh if A then B", "this always goes with that", is swap=fan's shirt. This is also a really good objective measure and is easy to research, so it's not about say I think Spring Man's pink hair is distinct so that's his Pink swap, where someone else might say, the bright cyan is more distinct and the pink hair is just there, so its his Cyan swap. The shirt color everyone can agree on at a glance.

Take Helix for example, we can agree that his default swap is Green, despite the fact that his personal box and splash screen are a dark Teal color. 76.169.177.127 19:35, 1 July 2017 (EDT)

Do fans' shirts change based on palette swap? I'm not saying that we should go by the most distinctive feature of each costume (which is subjective), I'm saying that ARMS are the central elements of the characters as a whole, so we should go with that color where possible. I still have a few cents to add here and there.

Almost all of the promontional colors are associated with the character's outfit in a way. Ninjara's is navy due to his... entire outfit, and Min Min's is green due to her chest padding and dragon ARM. It's not hard to determine which color each palette is associated with which color, unless it's Twintelle, whose main color is associated with her Actress Aura. It's not the same as in Smash Bros, where Roy's promo color is green due to something as minuscule as the hilt of his sword).

It's also a little odd to associate Ninjara with the color green purely because of what his fans are wearing, due to the fact that his "green" (I'd call it a turquoise green) is mostly his hair color and accents, when the rest is navy. The fans are also the only time I can recall from the top of my head that Ninjara's main color is green. At least Min Min's orange shows up as a primary color in more than one of the five references I listed.

As with Helix's bg, I can see why someone would see it as a dark teal, but I always saw it as just a regular dark green.

As for using ARM color as the primary palette color whenever possible, I'm not all too sure on that either. It would mean that Min Min's Black and Yellow alt should be red and her Red alt should be black since her dragon ARM swaps with those colors, and Ninjara's regular palette should be... gray? (and yes, Ninjara's chain ARMS do in fact change color, albeit subtly). Personally, I'd still stick with the promotional colors and see if it matches with their appearance at all, whether outfit or ARMS, whenever possible. Arend (talk) 22:25, 1 July 2017 (EDT)
