PineappleFreak (often shortened to Pineapple) is a former ARMS player from the United States who is considered to be one of the best Kid Cobra mains in the world. He has dominated the Ohio scene, being Power Ranked #1 in Ohio for each of their seasons so far. Pineapple is a former member of Fellows in ARMS, Flourish Esports, and RipTide eSports. PineappleFreak is often known as being the most wholesome ARMS player.

Pineapple first discovered ARMS on release day after an acquaintance gave a high recommendation. Despite not initially thinking he'd like it, Pineapple quickly became invested in the game. In late Summer of 2017, he became connected with his local ARMS scene, Ohio ARMS, to which he eventually became a member of their Power Ranking and administration staff. Around this time, Pineapple also met FormalCat while looking for friendlies and soon became engaged with Fellows in ARMS. After a number of voice chats, Defur asked PineappleFreak to join the team to which he accepted. Pineapple joined in on various FiA broadcasts including podcasts, the ARMS Community Awards, reaction streams, and more.

In early 2018, Pineapple had the honor of being a part of the ARMS US & Canada Online Open after qualifying eighth. He managed to take down the #1 seed, GoreMagala, but later lost to Resolve, the second seed. Pineapple placed 3rd in the event and received a signed piece of official artwork as a prize. He also commentated G7 ARMS Online alongside Schkrimps around this time. He commentated a number of Mega League Mondays and Fight Club events in 2018 as well. Later in the year, at Smash'N'Splash 4, FiA announced that they were disbanding which left PineappleFreak without a team. Despite them disbanding, the team still converses with each other often, even to this day. A documentary was later created by Defur, titled The Fellows in ARMS, in which the team's comradery is clearly demonstrated. In late 2018, PineappleFreak joined Flourish Esports as a Player Mentality Coach alongside former FiA alumni HanukkahJamboree who joined as their Head TO Coach. Pineapple's stint with the team only lasted for a few months though as he wanted to focus more on his job and family.

In early 2019, Pineapple met with player and musical artist Radio when he happened to be in his area. This kickstarted a friendship that blossomed into the Wholesome Transmissions series of podcasts starting in June of 2019. This podcast was co-hosted by the duo and discussed topics with prominent members of gaming communities, with many being from the ARMS community. That June, Pineapple also placed 2nd at Smash'N'Splash 5, making what some believe is the greatest ARMS Losers run of all time.[1] This run showed that even though he couldn't make it to many events, he still was one of the largest threats in the US. Later, in July, Pineapple joined Radio's eSports team, RipTide eSports, as an ARMS player and podcaster as Pineapple found that the team's values lined up with his perfectly. He was also recommended to be put on the compendium for SwitchFest 2019, but opted to deny his spot because he had plans that could not be canceled the day of the event. In late 2020, Pineapple parted ways with RipTide eSports and announced that he will remain teamless for the indefinite future.[2]

Despite Pineapple's low activity at offline majors (outside of Smash'N'Splash), he has always tried to support the offline scene in Ohio. He often supported events like A Call to ARMS, Nyancon, Pressure, and Pressure 2. Victories at these events, combined with high results in the Ohio ARMS ran online event series The Biweekly Procrastination, justified his #1 spot on the Ohio ARMS Power Ranking for each of their running seasons so far.

Overall, PineappleFreak's ARMS career has strong results, but he is often more recognized for his kindness and attitude toward his fellow players. This is easily seen by the fact that he won Most Exemplary Community Member at the ARMS Community Awards in 2017. Pineapple has always prioritized community growth and player-to-player relationships over idolizing his results and this is further reinforced by his choice in teams and associations. His dedication to positive growth and logical feedback has helped the community to get where it is now and he still continues to support the scene and game today.

Playstyle

PineappleFreak's signature set consists the Boomerang, Clapback, and Popper. This set tends to cover most opponents and play styles well, except against heavy opponents. Using a combination of Clapback and Popper allows for coverage of aerial fighters as well as being a good opposition to the widely popular set of double glove ARMS. Pineapple often utilizes Popper and Boomerang against more grounded fighters and against heavy sets. He also uses double Boomerang which often throws opponents off and allows for Rush confirms utilizing the wind attribute. Pineapple occasionally switches out his Boomerang for a Brrchuk to surprise his opponents. This allows him to have a better defense compared to play with his Boomerang as well as a counter to aggressive play styles. Another common loadout that he uses is the Brrchuk, Megawatt, and Roaster which is better against heavy opponents compared to his other signature set.

Famously, Pineapple has experimented with almost all ARM combinations in the game on his main, Kid Cobra. This experimentation has led to some creative and odd sets, such as Scorpio and Seekie, and has allowed him to grasp how to play with and against most ARM combinations. This has also given him appreciation for most, if not all, ARMS in the game even if some aren't as viable in competition as others.

Trivia

  • PineappleFreak's tag stems from the TV show "Psych" in which there was a hidden pineapple in each episode. He found this amusing and soon created the tag "PineappleFreak" for his Xbox 360 account when he was only 12 years old. Ever since then, he has been known as this name by friends, family, as well as the ARMS community.
  • PineappleFreak's favorite video game of all time is Chrono Trigger.
  • The Pineapple Grab is a technique in which you grab right at the beginning of a round. This eponymous grab was named so because PineappleFreak often fell victim to his opponents doing so early in his ARMS career.
  • With 47 wins, PineappleFreak has the most Biweekly Procrastination wins out of all Biweekly Procrastination victors.
  • Being the overall winner of ARMS Colosseum's first season, PineappleFreak won a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Ever since then, he has continued to use said controller alongside sticks and grips, given to him by Defur, for ARMS.
