The ARMS North American Open August 2020 is an official online ARMS tournament to be held from August 8th, 2020 to August 9th, 2020 by Nintendo of America & Battlefy. The event was first revealed on July 27th, 2020 as part of the NintendoVS summer series of events. First place will receive download codes for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Splatoon 2 and the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2 while second, third and fourth place will each receive 2500 My Nintendo Gold Points (equivalent to $25 USD). Unlike the ARMS North American Online Open (April 2020), Nintendo of America will host an official stream for this event on their Youtube, Twitch and Twitter accounts. Mileve and HanukkahJamboree also provided unofficial streams for pools. The tournament received 767 players, making it the 2nd biggest ARMS event in history behind the ARMS North American Online Open (April 2020) which featured 880 players.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate + Fighters Pass Vol. 2, Splatoon 2 & 7500 My Nintendo Gold Points (equivalent to $75 USD)
Many players were very unhappy with the event due to the single-elimination format, random stages, random seeding and lack of any lag despite rules. Players such as ALUMOX, Jorr, and HanukkahJamboree were very vocal of this fact with the latter making fun of Nintendo of America via a poorly drawn MS Paint representation of a Nintendo Board Meeting, requested by Steelhead.
Due to the large number of entrants, the player pool was divided up into 4 brackets which were named after various characters in ARMS. These characters included Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Min Min and Max Brass.
